All CYO Activities Cancelled Indefinitely

Parents:

At the direction of the Archdiocese of New York, all Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) activities are cancelled indefinitely. 
The CYO Archdiocese of New York released the following announcement:

“ALL CYO ACTIVITIES, SPORTING EVENTS AND PRACTICES CANCELLED INDEFINITETY

After consultation with the leadership of the Catholic Schools and Youth Ministry, all CYO activities and all sporting events and practices have been cancelled indefinitely. We are continuing to monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). It is rapidly changing and we are closely following the advice of city, state and federal health officials. We will keep you informed.”

As always, the health and safety of our St. Joseph’s CYO participants and the community at large is our highest priority. We will continue to follow the direction of the Archdiocese and inform you of any further notifications. In addition, our program website at http://stjoeshoops.org/ will be updated with all necessary alerts.

Roof Refurbishment Raffle for St. Joseph’s School Gym
The St. Joseph’s Living Rosary Society is sponsoring a Roof Refurbishment Raffle for St. Joseph’s School Gym. A $20 donation per ticket enters the holder into 20 weekly drawings of $25 beginning March 8 plus a grand prize drawing of $500 and five $100 prizes on July 19. See Jay Whitmore at Saturday morning instructional to purchase tickets.

MPB Summer Basketball League
Registration is open for the 2020 Most Precious Blood (MPB) Summer League Season in Walden, NY. This summer league is highly recommended for all our St. Joe’s CYO travel participants. The league runs from June 22 to July 31 with Playoffs and Championships the final week of the season. Register on the website at www.mpbsummer.com. E-mail questions to info@mpbsummer.com.


CYO Track and Field
The Orange County Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) has announced that online registration for the 2020 Boys and Girls Track and Field program is now open. See attached flyer for details. CYO Parent’s Contract

As a reminder, our parents have signed and agreed to abide by all CYO rules, regulations and policies, including our CYO Athletic Code of Ethics. A parent (or relative or friend) who acts in a manner in opposition to CYO policies will result in their expulsion.

 

CYO Athletic Code of Ethics

CYO athletic competition is a means of training young people to enjoy healthful sports but with the end,

that win or lose, they learn to respect opponents, officials, and spectators.

It is important that all concerned with the CYO athletic program follow this code:

·         To emphasize the proper ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play.

·         To stress the values derived from being fair.

·         To show cordial courtesy to opponents and officials.

·         To establish a happy relationship between visitors and hosts.

·         To respect the integrity and judgment of officials.

·         To achieve through understanding and acceptance of the rules and standards of eligibility.

·         To encourage leadership, use of initiative and good judgment by the players.

·         To recognize that the purpose of competition is to promote the physical, mental, social and emotional well-being of the players.

·         To remember that a contest is only an activity and not a matter of life or death for player, coach, school, parish, official and fan.

CYO families interested in registering as parishioners are asked to call the rectory office at 845-651-7792 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays.
